Few ticks from the clock before noon, Mr. Renato and Mrs. Meliza Barcelona welcomed their beautiful and healthy baby girl named Plinky. That was 17 years ago, March 18, 1994 to be specific, when they heard her first cry. That cry made her mother forget all the pain she suffered while she was giving birth.
After three days of staying in Macabali Hospital, she finally got home in San Vicente, Apalit, Pampanga. She was the only child then that’s why she got all of their attention. But not after her mom gave birth again in 1996 and 1998. Her two younger brothers were born namely Charles and Renato Barcelona. Plinky was still the only daughter and that made her the princess of the family.
Plinky’s relatives called her daddy’s girl. When she was young, all she knew was her dad was her boyfriend. Not until she met Jiemar. She was grade one then, and he was her first crush. He’s the reason why Plinky always ask her mom to put some ponytails and clips on her hair.
Plinky got medals and award during her early years in school. People said that she got all of those because her mom was a teacher. But they’re wrong. After she graduated in preparatory school, her mom never taught her in her studies. And that was the saddest part.
But Plinky’s high school life was different. No more medals, no more awards. She learned how to cut classes and joined the wrong circle of friends. Even though her grades were not failing, they were still not as good as before. She broke everyone’s expectations. She was a big disappointment at that time.
But life didn’t end there. Thank God that Plinky met her second mother, Mrs. Alma Baltazar, her English teacher who made her realized what she was wasting. After hearing her words of wisdom, Plinky’s head seemed like hit in the wall. She was totally awakened by her. And because of that, she tried her hardest. And there it was, she graduated again with honors.
Her dad dreamed of her being a nurse while her mom being an engineer. Her dad wanted her to study in Bulacan while her mom in Pampanga. It was a long discussion and argumentation before she got what she wants. It is to take BS Accountancy in New Era University.
There she was now, living and fulfilling her dreams, fighting all the struggles and obstacles to succeed in her journey. So that two years from now, she will have what is destined and meant to her, to be Plinky G. Barcelona, Certified Public Accountant. :)
